Skilled Migration
Australia is one of the world's leading producers of minerals and energy products. In 2007-08 resources sector exports are expected to reach A$108.9b. The resources sector in Australia employs approximately 140,000 people and is growing rapidly. It is one of the fastest growing industry sectors in Australia with employment increasing by 66 per cent in the last five years.
However, the industry has reached the upper limits of labour market capacity, and both acute and chronic skills shortages have emerged. Job vacancies have grown five-fold since 2002, and skills shortages are causing delays in some projects, the indefinite mothballing of others, and higher costs across the sector.
Australia will require at least another 70,000 workers by 2015 - a growth rate of 9 per cent per annum. 70 per cent of the additional workers will be trades-people and semi-skilled.
The Skilled Migration Program is an official Government initiative to overcome skill shortages within the Australian workforce and to identify individuals who can make a valuable contribution to Australia's economy.
Australian Government statistics confirms 82% of Skilled Independent visa holders gain employment within first 6 months and 91% within 18 months.
