An Award for outstanding contribution to student learning in engineering and related subjects
Aim of the Award
This Award recognises and celebrates an individual secondary school teacher who has demonstrated excellence in applying the principles of engineering in the class room, enhancing the learning experiences of their students and increasing the community awareness of the value of engineering to society.
The Award will also:
- Raise the profile of teaching in the area of engineering related subjects
- Encourage students to pursue engineering, science and technology studies
- Encourage innovation in the classroom
- Profile the engineering profession and the role of engineers in society
Eligibility for Entry
Nominees for the Award should be Australian citizens or permanent residents and be employed as a teacher at a secondary school in Western Australia. Teachers may teach in a variety of areas including science, technology and enterprise, mathematics and physics or could be a coordinator for programs that use engineering principles in projects.
Nominations must be supported by the nominee's school principal. Nominees may self nominate or the nomination may be made by colleagues, parents or students.

The Award
The Award will comprise a certificate and cash prize of $5,000 for the individual teacher and $5,000 for engineering related projects at the teacher's school.
Finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the WA Engineering Excellence Awards presentation to be held on 12 September.
All entrants will be invited to attend the cocktail party to announce the winner, to be held on 7 August.
Judging
A panel of engineers and educators will review and judge the nominations. Nominees may be requested to attend an interview during July 2009.
The winner will be announced at a cocktail party to be held on Friday 7 August 2009, during Australian Engineering Week.
